BlackBerry of Canada and Baidu, the Chinese search engine giant, have reached an agreement to further deepen the cooperative relationship and jointly pave the way for the development of self driving in China.
According to the agreement, blackberry QNX neutrino real-time operating system (RTOS) will be integrated with Baidu high-resolution map. This is the second cooperation between the two sides after BlackBerry QNX operating system became the basis of Baidu Apollo self driving open platform in January 2018.
This embedded system will be applied to the next generation new energy electric vehicle aion of China Guangzhou Automotive Group (GAC). GAC electric vehicle division is one of the three largest automobile manufacturers in China, producing more than 2 million vehicles every year.
The partnership between Baidu and blackberry is particularly striking because the configuration of foreign operating systems in land-based vehicles is not in line with Beijing authorities' blueprint for developing local technologies.
Wang Yunpeng, head of Baidu's self driving technology department, pointed out in a statement that the move is to "provide automobile manufacturers with a clear and fast way to mass produce self driving, in which safety is the first priority.". 」
