The development history of KFC in China

KFC entered the ancient capital Beijing with a long food culture in 1987, thus starting its development history in this country with the largest population in the world.

On November 12, 1987, KFC officially opened its first restaurant in China in Qianmen, Beijing. Taking this as a starting point, KFC began to explore, learn from Chinese society and market, and gradually build a management mode with Chinese characteristics. In 1992, there were 10 restaurants in China, and in 1995, there were 71. On June 25, 1996, KFC China's 100th store was established in Beijing. This is a milestone, marking that KFC has entered a more stable development stage in China.

At the same time, KFC's image in the eyes of Chinese consumers is growing. In 1999, according to 16677 questionnaires from the world famous AC Nielsen research company in 30 cities in China, KFC, the first Western fast food to enter the Chinese market, was recognized as the "most frequently patronized" brand by Chinese consumers because of its unique food and quality, and ranked first among the top ten international famous brands in China.

With the gradual enrichment of the company's management experience, the continuous growth of the staff and the improvement of the business system, KFC has greatly accelerated its growth in the 21st century. In November 2000, KFC was the first Chinese restaurant chain to break through the scale of 400 restaurants. In October 2001, the number increased to 500, and in February 2002, it reached 600. After 11 months, the total number is 800. So far, KFC has opened more than 1000 restaurants in more than 200 cities in China, leading the catering industry in China. Not only that, China's KFC has maintained a good economic performance. KFC's China headquarters, China Baisheng catering group, ranked first among the top 100 catering companies in China for three consecutive years, with a turnover of 7.1 billion yuan in 2002. Most of them are from KFC.

Over the past 16 years, KFC has been deeply rooted in China, forming a high-quality team and a complete management system. At the same time, KFC has become the largest and most profitable first brand in China's catering industry, which plays an important role in promoting the development of the whole industry.

KFC not only provides more than 60000 employment opportunities for the whole country, but also is a university to cultivate catering management talents. Every year, we invest a lot of money and manpower to carry out strict and scientific training in various aspects and at all levels, so that many aspiring young people become excellent management talents in catering enterprises.

KFC's development has also driven the development of hundreds of domestic raw material suppliers. KFC's international quality management system has helped suppliers improve their product quality and management level, and some of them have grown into national famous enterprises.

Franchising is an area of great concern in the development of China's market economy in recent years. KFC is one of the first international companies to try the catering franchise mode in China. Through more than ten years of experience, we have cultivated successful examples. In 2003, KFC was rated as "the top ten best chain brands in China" by the national chain association.

Peking University and Fudan University made a quantitative and qualitative analysis on KFC's impact on China's economy in 2002 and 2003 respectively. The research shows that the economic benefits of KFC's investment and operation in China for 16 years are obvious, which are embodied in the demonstration effect of KFC's operation and management, the promotion effect of competition activation and suppliers, and the promotion effect on human resources.

As a member of Chinese society, KFC adheres to the enterprise tenet of "repaying society" and actively cares for people in need of help. Its main form is to sponsor China's children and youth education. According to statistics, KFC's direct and indirect donations to public welfare have reached more than 65 million yuan in the past decade. In September 2002, KFC cooperated with the China Youth Development Foundation to set up the "China KFC dawn fund" with a total amount of 38 million yuan, which has been providing long-term financial assistance to college students with poor families but excellent character and learning. At present, Dawning fund has been implemented in 24 universities across the country, and nearly 260 college students have received funding.
